Swiss guitarist Silvan Joray makes his debut on our stage with an in-form group and a fresh take on the music that led Downbeat to dub him a “sound magician.”

Hailed by Jazzwise magazine as "one of the most exciting young jazz guitarists on the international jazz scene", Swiss-born, NYC-based guitarist and composer Silvan Joray brings the openness of European improvised music to the rootedness and swing of American jazz. His second trio album "Updraft" has gained critical acclaim across the world, including the New York City Jazz Record that praised his music as "deft and tasteful".

For this performance, Joray showcases new music from his highly anticipated third album as a leader, recorded in New York earlier this year. Moving into larger ensemble writing, Joray’s latest compositions are innovative and lyrical, offering a rich variety of moods and textures and demonstrate his forward-thinking style and playful creativity.
