Former frontman of Antibalas for 23 years, AMAYO (which means, "If you don't go, you never know.") helped bring Afrobeat to a global audience before stepping into a solo career rooted in his Nigerian heritage and Chinese martial arts teachings. His anticipated solo album, Lion Awakes, produced by Thomas Brenneck (Budos Band, Dap Kings, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce and Jay-Z), has been called “a vibrant set of colorful, fierce, cross-cultural Afrobeat” by KEXP. It's his first new music since composing Antibalas' Grammy-nominated Fu Chronicles (2020) before leaving the band.

His new music honors his grandmother, Iyalawo (Black Magic Shaman). He says, "The world is right-side down. Only through honest collaborations can we find equilibrium." Lion Awakes offers medicinal words and songs, layered in a new sound with fresh angles to deepen the experience of this timeless music reimagined symphony where Myth meets Reality, and Kung Fu meets Afrobeat.

Now based in Atlanta, Amayo returns home to Brooklyn for a special night at LunÀtico, bringing the original Antibalas spirit from back in the day with a powerhouse lineup featuring former Antibalas members and surprise special guests. The music is rich with horns, keys, deep rhythms, and multilingual vocals sung in Yoruba, Edo, pidgin English, and Cantonese, built for an intimate room, a full table, and two sets that unfold like a celebration.

Vinyl copies of Lion Awakes will be available for sale at the show.
