This trio pays hommage to the great gafeira trombonist Raul De Barros. In Brazil, gafieira refers to a specific type of big band, as well as to the ballrooms where those bands perform. To this day, gafieira attracts dancers to popular clubs in Rio de Janeiro where couples dance samba, tango, foxtrot and the American maxixe (also known as Brazilian tango).
Brian Drye is one of the onstage musical stars of the hit musical Hadestown. He’s also a founding member of the eclectic chamber ensemble “The Four Bags”, and his compositions have premiered at Lincoln Center, Symphony Space and BAM Brooklyn. He’s a consistent member of the lower brass sections of Slavic Soul Party, Frank London’s Klezmer Brass Allstars, Banda De Los Muertos, Brooklyn Qwaali Party, and the Brazilian groups Maracatu NY and Nation Beat. And Brian has performed with Hank Roberts, Billy Martin, Medeski Martin and Wood and Steven Bernstein.
