The Dred Scott Trio has been performing in it's present incarnation for more than twenty years. During that time the band has released 7 albums, all of them on Ropeadope. They have performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, the Friehoffer Jazz Festival, the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival and were the house band for the yearly AMFAR CINEMA AGAINST AIDS benefit at the Cannes Film Festival for 5 years. The trio appeared every Tuesday night at midnight at the Rockwood Music Hall for 6 years and are regulars at Smalls and Mezzrow, Bar Lunatico and the Blue Note in their hometown of NYC. They appeared in the film, Once More with Feeling with Chazz Palmentieri and Linda Fiorentino and also appeared in the Travel Channel documentary about the Newport Jazz Festival.

An iconoclastic entertainer and an incomparable renegade pianist, Dred is known for his playful and stylistically diverse repertoire and penchant for covering pop tunes. Since coming to NYC from the Bay Area, Dred has gained a reputation on both coasts as an innovative and eclectic pianist and multi-instrumentalist. In the 90’s Dred co-founded the ground-breaking hip-hop jazz group Alphabet Soup with Kenny Brooks and Jay Lane, turning the San Fran jazz scene on its head with their full-throttle performances.

“The Dred Scott Trio gives off an intimate, anything-can-happen vibe...sometimes swinging hard and sometimes careening out of control. The feeling of ramshackle spontaneity...is something of a front for sophisticated, multi-segmented piano trio compositions.” — RELIX
