Poundcake was born when it was suggested by drummer/singer Ethan Eubanks to singer/guitarist Teddy Thompson that he should think about doing a project between album cycles that would keep him off the streets and out of the bars. Bassist/singer Jeff Hill was the natural and only consideration when it came to a bassist as the three had all just spent the better part of the year touring Thompson's record "A piece of what you need". They all share a deep and loving respect for this music that they discovered in their formative years as musicians.

Poundcake draws from a playbok which includes Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, the Brothers Louvin and Everley, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, etc.  And the band strives to honor the original recordings and recreate them in the trio setting.

Teddy Thompson is the son of folk legends Linda and Richard Thompson and doesn't need to be reminded of that anymore. He has a banging career as a singer songwriter and google him, he has done things, and blah blah blah

Jeff Hill is one of the best bass players on Kent ave. between Division and south 11th and has played with Rufus Wainwright, Shooter Jennings, Marshall Crenshaw and blah blah blah

Ethan Eubanks is considered by himself and his mother to be an amazing studio drummer and has played on records by Julianna Hatfield, Joseph Arthur, Crash Test Dummies and blah blah blah

While Poundcake takes the music part very seriously, the live show is a fun time and showcases the rapport these guys share together. They rip on each other constantly in an uncontrived manner. Ethan and Jeff are sometime employees of Teddy, but Poundcake being a band and full democracy, all gloves are off.

Poundcake got it's name from a "friend" of the band who, while touring Thompson's record, would bring baked goods, including a pound cake. This “friend” also gave the band other things that friends of bands sometimes give to the bands that they like. Two of the three members of Poundcake received these other non foodular "gifts". It is a closely guarded secret though and when pressed any member will say, "It was the other two".
