Tonite at LunÀtico, Rene Lopez brings an all-star funky quintet featuring Craig Dreyer on sax, Al Street on guitar, Nick Rolfe on keys, and Mamadou Ba on bass!

The son of an Italian mother and Puerto Rican salsa musician, Rene was playing drums before he could read, turning first to rock & roll and eventually to soul, R&B, and funk. He stepped out from behind the drum kit to become lead singer of the Authority in the late '80s and since then has been involved in a number of notable NYC-based projects including jam band, Wasabi, as well as Extra Virgin, which featured members of Blind Melon and future Wilco multi-instrumentalist, Pat Sansone. His solo full-length debut, One Man's Year features Lopez on drums, vocals, Clavinet, keyboards, and acoustic, electric, baritone, and National Steel guitars. Always in demand as a drummer, Lopez continued to play with several New York-based trios, including Holding the Void, the Tender Trio, and Belle Starr.
