Angelica Sanchez, piano
Michael Formanek, bass
Reggie Nicholson, drums
A NYTimes pick of this week's best jazz, Angelica is a pianist who "improvises with crisp articulation and muscular command. Her chords, both dense and concise, offset free improvisations that reflect Ms. Sanchez’s careful attention to narrative clarity. This year she released a strong trio album, “Float the Edge,” full of intense power and swarming interplay."
Originally from Arizona, Angelica Sanchez has played with: Wadada Leo Smith, Paul Motian, Richard Davis, Susie Ibarra, Tim Berne, Mark Dresser, Ben Monder and many more. Sanchez leads many groups including a quintet featuring Marc Ducret, Tony Malaby, Drew Gress, and Tom Rainey. She was the 2008 recipient of the French/American Chamber Music America grant and the 2011 Rockefellers Brothers Pocantico artist residency.
