Saxophonist/Flutist/Singer, Jessica Lurie brings an intriguing quintet to Bar LunÁtico featuring Mazz Swift on violin, Brandon Seabrook on guitar & banjo, Rene Hart on bass, and Allison Miller on drums.
Jessica is an award-winning composer and performer on saxophones, flute, voice, accordion and electronics. She is known for "melding lyrical pop, stinging rock, rhythmic Eastern European folk music and improvisation-heavy jazz with a dose of free-wheeling avant-groove-meets-grind" (Dan Oulette). She performs internationally with current projects including her Megaphone Heart Band; the ever eclectic and wonderful Tiptons Saxophone Quartet & Drums; jazz-funk trio Living Daylights; Sephardic music group Sofie Salonika; Jewish afro-beat with Zion80; Far Cry Flutes flute quartet and spontaneous grooves and improvisation with Full Fathom Five + 1 with Seattle saxophonist Skerik.
As a leader, side-person, composer and collaborator, Jessica is featured on over 60 recordings. She composes for multi-media, dance, theater and film, and has collaborated on over 30 multi-media works with visual artist Danijel Zezelj, theater companies Great Small Works and Circus Amok. Collaborations with international artists include Fred Frith, Billy Martin, John Zorn, Cyro Baptista, David Krakauer, Bill Frisell, Jenny Scheinman, Robert Dick, The Indigo Girls, Mark Ribot, Frank London, Allison Miller, Vinicio Caposella and Nels Cline.
